The camera loves you darling!

Tue 16th August 2011

We explored the waterpools for a couple of hours, being very careful not to fall over on the slippery rocks. I was trying very hard not to get swept away by the strong current in this picture!

DSLRs and water don’t mix so I had to be very careful with the camera. Slower parts of the river were covered with a slippy green moss so I tried to stay on the red rocks.

The only one where I’m not struggling to stay put. This one’s for you mum!

Waterfalls

Tue 16th August 2011

Today we visited a stunning waterfall where we swam in the clean, cold pools. Hidden away in the hills, it was a welcome relief from the heat of the afternoon sun. The perfect hangover cure!

Under the waterfall you can see in the picture, there was a little cave, sectioned off by the cascading water. I tried numerious times to get underneath but the current was too strong. The water was incredibly clear and actually not too cold.

This was so much fun. The water was so clear and fresh, very pcituresque as it tumbled down the rocks. Buddhists consider freshwater to be sacred, so women had to swim in shorts and a top to respect their beliefs.

Where’s the beach? That way!

Mon 15th August 2011

When it brightened up, we wandered to the beach to have a cocktail, eat a delicious BBQ and watch the fireworks with the group.

This was our first evening in a while when we didn’t have an early rise the next day. So what did we do? Sampled the local bars with the group of course! We also tried our first bucket – quite an experience.

Our little bungalow

Mon 15th August 2011

This is our own private beach bungalow – ours for 2 nights. We arrived during a heavy monsoon which lasted until around 6pm – we have never seen rain like it!

Travelling to Sihanoukville

Mon 15th August 2011

Most of today we spent travelling to our next destination Sihanoukville.  On the way we passed by some pretty spectacular scenery, including a beautiful waterfall, nested in the hills.

It’s quite hard to take a good picture from a moving vehicle. This is one of the better ones. It’s pretty much hold your finger on the button and hope for the best.

After the long bus ride, we were rewarded with a glimpse of the sea in the distance. Even through the rain, it was a magnificent sight.
