Flood prevention

We’re back in Bangkok and watching the Thai people frantically building flood preventions in case the water seeps beyond the flood gates and into the city centre.

Seven weeks on since our last visit to Bangkok and there’s been a massive amount of rain around SE Asia. Flooding on the outskirts of Bangkok.

Here a tailor shop is preparing for the worse by building a brick wall around the shop front. A slightly worried looking shop owner looking at the progress. Fingers crossed it works!

Luckily we’re staying near the airport, but it looks like Bangkok are preparing for the city getting flooded. Fingers crossed they can keep it out!

 

Underwater love

It’s true to say that we’ve both fallen in love with the ocean all over again. The past 7 days have ensured we discover sights like this, and I’ll never forget the experience.

Our final dive of the Advanced Training course! What an amazing 7 days of diving we’ve had. Nine dives under the belt already, my favourite was the night dive. I’ll definitely be diving again in the future!

The lessons. The training. The fear. Oh, the fear. But it’s all worth it when you get to share the ocean with it’s fascinating aquatic life. Bring on The Great Barrier Reef I say!

 

Hello Angel fish

Exploring the coral at 12-14 metres was one of my favourite parts of both diving courses. Meeting so many colourful, tropical fish along the way, it’s breathtakingly beautiful.

We quickly learned the commonly used underwater sign language. This sign means I’m okay and its not surprising considering the setting!

The most important sign language you will learn in diving is the “cut throat” sign; if your buddy does that it means they are out of air. Luckily if that happens there are many things you can do if it happens. It was all part of the training!

I love this photo. It’s like I’m swimming in the ocean all by myself. Diving really is unbelievable, it makes you appreciate the ocean for what it is, a huge expanse of water; a neverending playground.

What an attractive pair we are! I don’t think anyone looks that great with scuba gear on.

I think wearing a mask underwater makes you look somewhat startled. Until I got used to it, I kept thinking something was wrong everytime I looked at Matt.
