Monking around

Sun 4th September 2011

This morning, after an early rise, we walked into the town to watch the Monks’ offering. Every day local people line the streets to offer rice to the Monks as a gesture of good fortune.

Matt says...

The Monks travel around in little Monk-packs and they approach you from all directions. One rule is you don’t pass between the Monks on their precession, so I just stood still and let the Monks walk past me.

Claire says...

The Monk is higher than all people, so when you make an offer you have to sit below the Monk and hand him the rice. I didn’t realise there were so many rituals involved in the Bhuddist culture.
