Remembrance Day

Fri 11th November 2011

We walked down to Martin Place for today’s Remembrance Day service for Australia’s War veterans and their families.

This is the very impressive war memorial in the heart of Sydney. It’s so big it even has an exhibition centre inside. Was interesting to walk around it for an hour or so.

The service was lovely, but we bet the streets of Sydney weren’t as packed as London’s would have been.

Purple rain

Tue 8th November 2011

This stunning purple tree really stood out in Hyde Park on our walk back to Surry Hills. It seemed to like shedding it’s blossom on the grass, creating a purple carpet for sunbathers to lie on.

I have no idea what type of tree this is, but they seem to be all over the city. Very colourful!

The Rainbow Lorikeet

Tue 8th November 2011

We spotted this bright little fellow on our wander through the Botanic Gardens, just near Sydney Opera House.

Matt

Matt says...

Well you don’t get these colourful parrots in the trees in the UK!

Claire

Claire says...

These parrots were very noisy and with extremely vivid colours, making them easy to spot in the trees!

Sydneysiders

Tue 8th November 2011

We enjoyed our first official day as new Sydneysiders. Something tells us it’s going to take a while to explore the whole city though, it’s huge!

G’day Sydney!

Tue 8th November 2011

Now that’s a view worth waiting for right? Our first impressions of Sydney are that it’s big, clean and very friendly. And it has beautiful parks too!

Matt

Matt says...

Impressive view huh? It was a little too hot to be jogging (yogging), these people must be mad!
