Travelling on the main, dusty road from the boarder to Siem Reap, we passed many waterlogged fields and saw some characters ride past too.
So we are finally here in Cambodia! This grand entrance marks us leaving Thailand and entering our next destination. Yay!
Today our main task was to visit the MBK Centre, a huge shopping mall across the other side of town. Anything you want to buy you are pretty much guaranteed to grab there.
One of the monks beckoned us closer to give Matt this mini Buddha. We weren’t sure what it meant at first, until the other monk revealed it signified that we were now allowed to give him some coins (if we so wished).
We ventured into a tranquil park to have a wander and take a break from the hectic traffic. Here we spotted two monks having an afternoon natter. We asked if they minded us taking their photo, sparking an interesting conversation.
I always assumed Buddhist monks would be behind the times, Buddhism being such an ancient religion and all. If you look closely you can see a can of Diet Coke next to one and the other is reading today’s paper.
These monks were very friendly. One spoke pigeon English, but he was very patient with our questions. They seemed pleased we were taking an interest.
