Three kids on a motorbike

Thu 11th August 2011

Travelling on the main, dusty road from the boarder to Siem Reap, we passed many waterlogged fields and saw some characters ride past too.

The legal driving age in Cambodia is 18. I don’t think the driver is legal…

Not only are these kids riding a motorbike themselves, but they look fairly relaxed about it too! Obviously the best way to get around for everyone in Cambodia.

The door to Cambodia

Thu 11th August 2011

So we are finally here in Cambodia! This grand entrance marks us leaving Thailand and entering our next destination. Yay!

It was good to finally get out of Bangkok and get on our way. It took a while to get through the border control and the humidity was high, but it was worth it.

Trip to the MBK Centre

Wed 10th August 2011

Today our main task was to visit the MBK Centre, a huge shopping mall across the other side of town. Anything you want to buy you are pretty much guaranteed to grab there.

We saw this giant duck and seemed like a great photo opportunity. What you won’t know is it was extremely hard to get down from but I just managed with my dignity intact!

Say hello to my little friend

Tue 9th August 2011

One of the monks beckoned us closer to give Matt this mini Buddha. We weren’t sure what it meant at first, until the other monk revealed it signified that we were now allowed to give him some coins (if we so wished).

We scrambled in our purse for some coins and handed over a few, much to their delight (must have been more than they were expecting). I love how random this encounter was and now we have a little charm to remember it by.

Just chillin’, being Buddhist

Tue 9th August 2011

We ventured into a tranquil park to have a wander and take a break from the hectic traffic. Here we spotted two monks having an afternoon natter. We asked if they minded us taking their photo, sparking an interesting conversation.

Matt

Matt says...

I always assumed Buddhist monks would be behind the times, Buddhism being such an ancient religion and all. If you look closely you can see a can of Diet Coke next to one and the other is reading today’s paper.

These monks were very friendly. One spoke pigeon English, but he was very patient with our questions. They seemed pleased we were taking an interest.
