Long way up

Tue 27th December 2011

On the way back up the sun came out and Matt snapped this lovely picture of us (struggling) to get back up the hill.

Getting down the the most easterly point was the easy part. Getting back up in the thirty plus degree sun was the hard part!

The sun came out and boy was it hot walking up all those steps!

Sunset at Coral Bay

Sat 1st October 2011

Time for another stunning sunset, this time at Coral Bay – the bay behind Long Beach. You can sit on the rocks to watch it go down.

Coral Bay is quieter than Long Beach and smaller too. Even though Long Beach doesn’t get the sunset, I prefer it’s brilliantly wide, dominating shoreline.

Runtree Bay

Tue 13th September 2011

We walked from Viewpoint through the jungle and along a dirt road for about 2 hours to find this bay. It was worth it when we got there!

We travelled the really hard way to this bay. Who knew you could actually get lost on an island the size of Phi Phi. It’s a talent we have I guess!

I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to see the sea. And such beautiful, soft white sand too. Our feet sunk into it forever as we walked along the beach.

A’hoy there sailor!

Fri 26th August 2011

After a gentle sail around the bay, we approached a particular island to explore it’s cave. I had visions of us ducking into a small nook to admire the rocks. Nothing could have prepared us for what lay ahead.

That’s why everyone loves it!

This photo doesn’t do the Halong Bay islands justice.  They loom out of the calm water like dark, green-fringed monsters. In fact, we thought that from afar, they looked a little like the Lock Ness Monster!

Everywhere you point a camera in Ha Long Bay is a great picture. It’s really hard to do it justice with one photograph. You really have to see it for yourself.

I sat on the top deck of the boat for a while, watching the majestic scenery pass by. It was one of those ‘I’m so lucky to be seeing this’ moments that I’m pretty familiar with now.
