Padi Advanced Diving Course

Thu 20th October 2011

We loved Open Water so much, we couldn’t say goodbye to the ocean just yet. So we’ve signed up for an Advanced course, which should give us a solid base for diving in Australia.

Open Water diving ticked off; time to move onto the Advanced course then! We get to do a night dive and a sea wreck dive tomorrow! Super excited!

What am I doing, 5 days ago there’s no way I would’ve predicted this! Time to see what 30 metres deep has to offer…

Yay, we’re certified!

Wed 19th October 2011

After a few skills underwater and our dive, we emerged from the water as fully certified Open Water Divers!

Matt

Matt says...

What an amazing experience, I’ve loved every minute of the diving (apart from the major sea sickness on the first day, that wasn’t fun at all!)

It is a great feeling to know we’d passed, and can now go diving anywhere in the world.

View of Twins

Wed 19th October 2011

Our second dive site is called Twins, where two huge rocks rise out of the sea. This panoramic view shows you exactly the kind of location we’re experiencing.

If you look closely at the centre of the picture you can see some air bubbles rising to the surface. These are from another group of divers on our boat who are already diving.

Just before our second dive, we witnessed our first rain storm on Koh Tao. You can see it raining on the right hand side of the photo!

Navigation lessons

Wed 19th October 2011

Learning to use a compass underwater is part of the Open Water course. Here we’re being taught how to use a compass and how to swim toward a desired location.

Matt

Matt says...

My navigation skills on land aren’t that great, I hope they are a little better in the sea! Fingers crossed!

All kitted out

Don’t I look comfortable in all my Scuba gear? It takes a while to put on and the tank is very heavy, but almost completely weightless in the water.

I’ve always loved swimming in the sea, but Scuba Diving takes it to another level. Gliding with fishes in their natural habitat isn’t something everyone gets  to do, so I feel very lucky to be experiencing it.
