Me and my friend

Tue 6th September 2011

Here’s Matt and his new elephant friend! This elephant certainly liked him, sneaking it’s trunk up from behind to grab the tip out of his hand!

I’ve never been so close to an elephant. Such amazing creatures and very intelligent. I tipped the elephant after the photograph by handing it a 20 Baht note. He promptly passed it back to the rider and nodded in appreciation.

Leave your hat on

I love elephants, especially these ones! All the elephants at the camp were so well trained and very odedient.

I stood between two of the elephants and their trunks encircled me, one of them placing a hat on my head. After this was taken one of the trunks tapped the hat, as if to check it was on good and tight.

Our brave elephant

Tue 6th September 2011

Our elephant carried us for 60 minutes, through the pouring rain and we want to show our appreciation! Everyone, give us a hand for Somboon!

The poo part in the name stands for male, nothing to do with the elephants personal issues. It’s amazing how strong he was. It was like we weren’t even sitting on him.

Ride that elephant

Tue 6th September 2011

Today we ventured out to Maesa Elephant Camp in Chiang Mai, a stunning park set in the jungle where over 50 Elephants are bred and looked after.

Unfortunately the weather poured it down while we were riding the elephant which made the ride a little crazy. Luckily the elephant knew how to handle the mud (there was a lot of mud!).

The elephant ride lasted 1 hour. There was a monsoon during, so we had waterproofs on and a huge umbrella. At certain points I wondered if the elephant would make it up the steep inclines. Do elephants slip?!?
