One lone English fan

Sat 3rd December 2011

We went to see Icehouse, an Australian rock band in one of the tents. Not many people were dancing, so the English did what they do best – got involved!

I wasn’t sure if I liked the band, but I look like I’m enjoying myself here!

Aussie pub rules

Fri 11th November 2011

Friday night was our first experience of an Aussie pub and we liked it. It was also our chance to chat our new roomies on the wind down from the week.

So they don’t really do pints over here. They have something slightly smaller cammed a skuna (spelling?). I have no idea what it’s short for though.

First drinks on Aussie soil! Woo yeah.

Night market

Sat 5th November 2011

Melacca is famous for it’s antiques, arts and crafts. The Jonker Street night market certainly didn’t disappoint!

The night market on the Friday night was fine, not too busy. On Saturday it was packed! After 20 mins pushing through people we gave up and retired to the hostel to watch a movie.

This bustling night market was a real eye opener. We got to try some local delicacies, like Popiah which is basically the tasiest fresh spring roll ever.

Angelic church square

Wed 2nd November 2011

The fountain square is very elegant at night. It looks completely different when lit up with red lights against the red walls of the buildings.

Melacca at night is gorgeous. All the buildings are lit up with pretty coloured lights to add to the atmosphere.

Night diving!

Fri 21st October 2011

Diving in the dark? Crazy! It was actually one of the more peaceful dives we did, your field of vision is reduced so all your senses are heightened.

Matt

The night dive was my favourite dive of the nine we completed. In your own little world the size of the beam of your torch. Reminded me of a few scenes from the film “The Abyss”.

I was a bit jittery about the night dive, something about entering the water in the dark made me nervous. Once under though, it was a completely different experience to during the day. You can’t see past the light of your torch, so your hearing is even more sensitive than usual. We got to see the night shift too, a couple of Stingrays on the sand at the bottom!
