Beautiful coral

Wed 5th October 2011

The first point we went to had some pretty beautiful coral and so much of it! It rose from the ocean bed in great cones, with fragile edges soften by the water.

This photo just reminds be of those fish screen savers you can get for your computer, only much more realistic. It’s like I’m swimming inside a monitor!

Look at me, I float!

Negotiating flippers can be very tricky when you’re trying to take an underwater photo. Actually, taking one underwater full stop is a challenge if you’re trying not to touch the coral!

Jumping in

Wed 5th October 2011

Here’s me about to jump into the sea to start the snorkeling adventure! It was just Matt and I, so it was a little scary diving down into the blue by ourselves.

I’m quite proud of myself today, I conquered my fear of open water and just went for it. Once you stick your head under the water it’s so peaceful down there, there’s nothing to be frightened of.

Lightning strikes

Tue 4th October 2011

Every night here in the Perhentian Islands there has been a spectacular thunder storm due to the fact that the island is just coming into rainy season. They are amazing to watch!

Taking photos of lightning is hard work! Most of the images you get tend to be blank. It’s pure luck when you get on (or very good timing). The white dots you can see on the horizon are fishing boats out at sea. I wouldn’t want to be on one of them at the moment!

View of Turtle Bay

Sun 2nd October 2011

The boat moored at Turtle Bay beach after we swam cross the blue lagoon. This entirely secluded beach is where turtles choose to lay their eggs every evening.
